Gochara transit verdicts and Vedha
gochara.transit-verdicts
Each graha's house from Janma Rashi is assessed against favourable houses and Vedha blocking rules.

Computation method
Method type: decision-table
Count each Graha's house from Janma Rashi, test its favourable-house set, and downgrade a favourable result when a non-exempt Graha occupies its mapped Vedha house.
Process
- Build a house-to-occupants index for the supplied sky.
- For each Graha, compute its inclusive house from Janma Rashi.
- Start adverse; change to favourable only when that house is in the Graha's favourable set.
- For non-node Grahas, find the Vedha house for that favourable position and scan its occupants.
- Ignore self, Rahu/Ketu, and the Surya-Shani or Chandra-Budha exemption pairs; otherwise mark blocked and name the first blocker.
Formulae
Gochara house
h_g = ((index(rasi_g)-index(janma_rasi)) mod 12)+1- h_g: Graha house from natal Moon sign
Worked example
Surya in Mithuna with Guru in Dhanu, Janma Mesha
Inputs
- Janma Rashi: Mesha
- Surya: Mithuna
- Guru: Dhanu
Calculation
- Surya is in house 3, one of its favourable houses.
- Surya house 3 has Vedha house 9.
- Guru occupies house 9 and is not an exempt blocker.
Result
- Surya verdict: blocked
- Vedha by: Guru
Method notes
- Rahu and Ketu use Surya's favourable houses but intentionally receive no Vedha processing under the registered conservative policy.

gochara.favourable_houses
Evidence class: textual

Locator: Chapter CIV (104), stanza 4, including its concluding all-planets 11th-house statement
Last reviewed: 2026-07-21
Scope: Supports the configured favourable houses counted from Janma Chandra for Surya, Chandra, Mangala, Budha, Guru, Shukra and Shani. The explicit houses in stanza 4 combine with its concluding statement that all Grahas are benefic in the 11th. It does not support the Vedha table, father-son exemptions, Rahu/Ketu convention, named Shani conditions, or the binary reduction of each transit to one verdict.

Scope: Supports every configured favourable-house-to-Vedha-house pair for Surya, Chandra, Kuja, Budha, Guru, Shukra and Shani, plus the Surya-Shani and Chandra-Budha exemptions. It does not support this project's Rahu/Ketu policy or named Shani conditions. Brihat Samhita Chapter 104 is not the authority for this layer.

Locator: Phaladeepika, Adhyaya XXVI, sloka 2 (printed p. 286), especially the concluding direction that Rahu and Ketu are similar to Surya
Last reviewed: 2026-07-21
Scope: Implements Phaladeepika 26.2's direction to treat Rahu and Ketu like Surya by admitting houses 3, 6, 10 and 11 from Janma Chandra. The passage does not establish whether nodes cause or receive Vedha, so the separate no-node-Vedha policy remains an explicitly unverified conservative boundary and does not inherit authority from this locator.
